Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has welcomed the public show of support from Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jnr and the club board following the team’s exit from the CAF Confederation Cup.
Amakhosi’s continental campaign came to an early conclusion, prompting scrutiny surrounding the technical team’s direction. In response, Motaung Jnr released an official statement reaffirming the club’s confidence in Da Cruz.
Speaking after Chiefs secured a 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout Cup, Da Cruz acknowledged the importance of the club’s backing while outlining the internal processes in place at Naturena.
“I would like to thank the Sporting Director and the board for the statement from the club,” Da Cruz said.
The French tactician confirmed that he meets regularly with Motaung Jnr to speak about the team and the project.
“The confidence he has given us for our daily work is very important, even if we win, lose or draw,” he added. “In our meetings, we always speak about improving the team.”
Da Cruz also pointed to several drawn matches where the technical team felt the performance merited a win, as well as an accumulation of contact injuries.
With the backing of the board secured and progress made in the Carling Knockout Cup, Kaizer Chiefs now turn their primary domestic focus towards the Betway Premiership and their upcoming Soweto derby clash against Orlando Pirates.
