AXN Sports is a sports news site covering 12 African markets in English, French and Portuguese. Every market has its own sports expert who lives there, follows its leagues, clubs and national teams week by week, and writes and reviews our coverage of it.
Why we exist
We exist to connect African sports fans through the sports they follow, and to give each market insight it can actually use. Too much sports coverage of Africa is produced from outside the continent, with one story stretched across every country and the local detail left out.
We work the other way round. Each country is covered on its own terms: Simba and Yanga in Dar es Salaam, the Durban July in South Africa, the Safari Sevens in Nairobi, the Lions Indomptables in Yaoundé. A fan in Lusaka and a fan in Luanda get news made for them, in their own language, about the teams they actually follow.
Our coverage started with football and the sports each market cares about most: rugby, cricket, athletics, boxing, basketball, netball and horse racing.
What you will find on our site
Local sports news
Regular reporting on the leagues, clubs and national teams each market follows, from the NPFL and the PSL to AFCON 2027 qualifying.
More than football
Rugby in South Africa and Kenya, netball in Malawi, boxing in Ghana and Zambia, athletics in Tanzania and Uganda, and horse racing in South Africa.
Three languages
English for nine markets, French for Cameroon and Portuguese for Angola and Mozambique, each produced directly in that language rather than translated.
Local betting guides
For readers who bet, each market also has a guide to licensed local betting sites, explained in plain language.

How we produce our sports coverage
We use structured sports data from sports data providers and AI assisted tools to help our team spot relevant events, analyse information and prepare first drafts. Each article is then written up and reviewed by the local sports expert for that market, who edits it, adds local knowledge and checks it before publication. Four rules shape what we publish.
Local first
Every expert lives in the country they cover and uses their own experience of its clubs, fans and sporting culture to get the details right. We do not rewrite one country’s story for another.
Named sources
We work from up to date sports data, federations, league organisers, club statements and regulators. When a story depends on another outlet’s reporting, we name that outlet.
Checked before publishing
Facts, results and names are checked before a story goes live, and pages are updated when things change.
Corrections
If we get a fact wrong, we fix it and update the date on the page. Found a mistake? Email us at [email protected]; reports from readers matter a lot to us.
Our betting guides
Betting is a small part of what we publish. Where we do cover it, we judge a betting site on what matters in that specific country: a licence from the national regulator, the mobile money methods locals use and their fees, coverage of local leagues, how the site works on a phone, and bonus terms stated plainly. Every betting page is checked against the current law of its country.
Our site is free to read. When a reader opens an account with a bookmaker through one of our links, we may earn a commission. This never decides a ranking or the content of a guide, and a bookmaker cannot pay to be rated higher.
Betting is for adults aged 18 and over. Set a budget, never chase losses, and take a break when it stops being fun. If betting is causing you problems, speak to someone you trust and contact the gambling regulator in your country.
Where we are heading
Our aim is to become the first place African fans go for anything to do with sport on the continent. This is what we are working towards:
More sports
We will add the sports and competitions our readers follow beyond today’s coverage, market by market, as interest grows.
More angles
Match previews and analysis, interviews, player and club profiles, women’s sport, youth and grassroots football, and the business side of the game.
More markets and experts
New African countries, and more local experts in the markets we already cover, so each one gets deeper reporting.
More for every fan
Fixtures, results, tables and useful tools that make following African sport easier, all in one place.
Every step follows the same rule we started with: local experts, serving the people who live there.
Contact us
