Kenya’s domestic rugby sevens season is back in full swing, with leading clubs naming strong squads for the Prinsloo Sevens.
KCB Rugby confirmed their squad for the Prinsloo Sevens in late July, joining the country’s traditional powers on the national sevens circuit. The series gives local players a stage to push for selection to Shujaa, the national sevens side, and every leg draws close attention from the selectors.
The timing matters. Shujaa suffered relegation from the top tier of the global SVNS series earlier this year, and the national team needs fresh legs as it plans a route back. Coaches use the local circuit to track form, and standout performers at events like Prinsloo often earn call ups to the wider training group.
Names such as George Ooro and Samuel Asati have carried Shujaa in recent seasons, but the depth behind them will decide how quickly Kenya can climb again. Strong club competition at home remains the clearest path to rebuilding that depth, and the circuit is where reputations are made.
For clubs like KCB, the Prinsloo Sevens is also a title to chase in its own right. The tournament carries history and local pride, and a win there still means plenty to players and supporters even outside the national team picture.
Where to bet: Kenyan rugby fans can find sevens and Shujaa markets with licensed bookmakers Betika and SportPesa, priced in Kenyan shillings, KES. Availability varies by event, so check the sportsbook near kickoff. 18+. Gamble responsibly.
As the circuit rolls on, the results will shape the early conversation about who deserves a Shujaa shirt for the season ahead.
