ZESCO United and Nchanga Rangers finally registered their first victories of the 2026 MTN Super League transitional season, with contrasting wins providing a timely boost to their campaigns in Week 5.
ZESCO produced the more emphatic result, thrashing Mutondo Stars 5-0 at Trade Fair Grounds in Ndola, while Nchanga edged NAPSA Stars 1-0 to end their wait for maximum points.
ZESCO hit Mutondo for five
ZESCO United delivered an impressive attacking display to claim their first win after opening the campaign with two draws and a defeat.
Anthony Shipanuka set the tone by scoring inside the first minute, giving the hosts an early advantage and putting Mutondo Stars under immediate pressure.
Kennedy Musonda doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 37th minute after Abraham Siankombo was brought down inside the box. The striker then completed his brace a minute later to put ZESCO firmly in control at half-time.
Happy Nsiku extended the advantage on the hour mark with a header from a corner before Elvis Addae completed the rout late in the match, capitalising on an error by Mutondo goalkeeper Scotch Mwanza.
The result marked a significant response from Mwenya Chipepo’s side, who had been searching for a breakthrough after failing to win their opening three matches.
For Mutondo Stars, however, the heavy defeat extends a difficult start to the season.
Early goal gives Nchanga first win
Nchanga Rangers also ended their wait for a first victory, edging NAPSA Stars 1-0 with the decisive goal coming in the third minute.
The early strike proved enough to separate the sides, handing Nchanga three valuable points after a difficult opening to the transitional campaign.
The result offers Nchanga an opportunity to build momentum as they seek to climb away from the bottom of the standings.
MUZA go top as Trident and Zanaco win
Elsewhere in Stream A, FC MUZA moved to the summit with a 1-0 victory over defending champions Power Dynamos.
Solomon Mpasela scored in the 50th minute to take MUZA to 10 points from four matches.
Trident FC thrashed Makeni All Stars 6-1.
Zanaco FC also won comfortably, beating Kansanshi Dynamos 3-0 through goals from Kiala Wa Kiala and a brace by Araina Lambert.
In Stream B, Green Eagles were held to a goalless draw by Nkwazi.
With the transitional season still in its early stages, ZESCO and Nchanga will hope their first wins provide the platform for a more consistent run as the race for the two stream titles gathers pace.
