The twenty club Zambian Super League is being played as a 2026 Transition Season split into two streams of ten, with the two stream winners meeting in a championship match on 31 January 2027.
Clubs were placed in the two streams, called Stream A and Stream B, on their final standings in the previous season, by odd and even league position. Each club plays eighteen matches inside its own stream.
The winner of the championship match takes the CAF Champions League place, subject to CAF rules and club licensing. Final Transition Season standings decide which clubs enter the 2027 ABSA Cup, replacing the previous system of using league positions at the halfway stage, and the league has said that edition will be played in the first half of the 2027 season.
The opening matches
League matches began over the weekend of 3 and 4 October. Konkola Blades beat Power Dynamos 2-1, Nkana won at Trident 1-0 and Zanaco won at Nchanga Rangers 1-0.
Green Eagles won 4-1 away at Mufulira Wanderers and lead Stream B after the opening round. Roan United won at Nkwazi 2-1. Kabwe Warriors and Zesco United drew 1-1, and so did Napsa Stars and FC MUZA.
