Uganda’s Cricket Cranes secured their second victory at the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers in Abuja, Nigeria, after overcoming Lesotho by 5 wickets in a low-scoring contest on Wednesday.
- Competition: ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub Regional Qualifier C
- Wednesday result: Uganda 89 for 5 beat Lesotho 87 all out by 5 wickets
- Next fixture: Uganda v The Gambia, Friday 23 October
It was far from a convincing performance from the Ugandan side, but they did enough to register another win.
The Cricket Cranes made one change to their side, leaving out Juma Miyaji and bringing in Pius Oloka.
Uganda’s bowlers took control of the contest, restricting Lesotho to 87 all out inside 20 overs.
Kenneth Waiswa led the bowling attack with 4 wickets. Oloka also made his presence felt, claiming 1 for 14 from his 4 overs.
A shaky start to the chase
However, Uganda’s pursuit of the modest 88-run target got off to a shaky start when Robinson Obuya was dismissed off the first ball.
Riazat Ali Shah (26) and Raghav Dhawan (10) attempted to rebuild the innings, but Lesotho captain Ts’episo Chaoana dismissed both batters to put Uganda under pressure.
The Cricket Cranes suffered further setbacks with the dismissals of Kenneth Waiswa and Gerald Olipa, leaving the middle order with work to do.
However, the experienced pair of Alpesh Ramjani and Sumeet Verma steadied the innings and guided Uganda across the finish line without further damage.
Uganda reached 89 for 5 inside 13 overs, completing a 5-wicket victory.
The Cricket Cranes will return to action on Friday when they face The Gambia, seeking to extend their winning run in Abuja.
