The Junior Rugby Cranes have been busy in Kampala, building toward the 2026 Rugby Africa Under 20 Barthes Trophy with a home camp against Tunisia. Tunisia’s Under 20 side arrived in Uganda on 23 July for a joint high performance camp and two international test matches. The exchange gave Uganda’s technical team a close look at emerging players.
The first Test took place on 26 July with a 2pm kickoff, giving Uganda’s young forwards and backs a serious examination against a strong North African outfit. Coaches used the fixtures to test combinations, work on set piece detail and settle a matchday spine. Uganda’s own Under 20 side is also set for a warm up trip to Tunisia, extending the relationship between the two unions.
These matches matter for the wider programme. The Junior Rugby Cranes feed the senior side, and every camp helps identify local talent who can push into the national setup. Facing Tunisia, one of Africa’s steadier rugby nations at age grade level, offers a useful measure of where Uganda stand. Regular exposure to travel and physical opponents is exactly what these players need.
Attention now shifts to the Barthes Trophy itself, where Uganda want to climb the table and earn respect against the continent’s best young sides. A settled squad, fit players and sharp discipline will decide how far this group can go. The tournament represents Uganda’s clearest pathway back to the top of African age grade rugby, and home support in Kampala has already lifted the mood.
