Vipers have rebuilt their squad around the return of Uganda Cranes talisman Farouk Miya as they prepare for the CAF Champions League.
The Ugandan side will learn their opponents at the preliminary round draw, set for 6 August at CAF headquarters in Cairo. Kitara, Uganda’s other continental representative, will also discover their path in the same window, giving the country two teams to follow in Africa this season.
Miya’s return headlines a busy recruitment drive. Vipers also re-signed former Golden Boot winner Cesar Manzoki and added midfielder Joel Sserunjogi from KCCA, defender Nicholas Mwere, Gabonese goalkeeper Loyce Mbaba and right back Jacques Mangoba. The mix of local know how and foreign talent points to a squad built for a long campaign.
The work is being led by new head coach Denis Lavagne, who has already put the new arrivals through early field sessions. The French coach faces the task of blending fresh faces quickly, with continental football arriving before the group has much time together.
Vipers have also targeted regional silverware, taking part in the CECAFA Kagame Cup as part of a packed calendar. That extra load makes squad depth vital, and the club will hope its investment pays off across several fronts rather than stretching the team too thin.

Once the draw is made, the scale of the task will become clearer. For now, Vipers look like a club determined to make a mark beyond Uganda’s borders.
