Simba SC face Equatorial Guinea’s 15 de Agosto on Wednesday, October 21, in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary-round tie at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The match will be played behind closed doors after 15 de Agosto declined to admit supporters for the opening leg. Although the Equatorial Guinean side are the designated home team, both matches will take place in Dar es Salaam.
Simba in strong form
Simba head into the contest in strong form after beating Young Africans 2-1 in the Kariakoo Derby and defeating Mashujaa FC 6-1 in the NBC Premier League. They also advanced from the previous CAF Champions League round with a 7-1 aggregate victory over Malawi’s Mighty Wanderers.
Head coach Steve Barker says his team is well prepared following an extensive pre-season programme in Kigali, Rwanda, Polokwane, South Africa, and Dar es Salaam. The coach will now look to guide his side towards another positive result as they pursue a place in the group stage.
15 de Agosto also progressed convincingly from the first preliminary round, defeating Comoros side Fomboni FC 5-0 on aggregate after winning the first leg 4-0 and the return match 1-0.
Simba will look to attacking players such as Libasse Gueye, Elie Mpanzu and Anicet Oura to provide the goals. However, the final line-up and availability of players should be confirmed closer to kick-off.
Group stage at stake
The return leg is scheduled for Sunday, October 25, at Uhuru Stadium, with Simba as the designated home team. Supporters are expected to attend that match as the Tanzanian side pursue qualification for the CAF Champions League group stage.
With both legs being played at the same venue, Simba will aim to take a positive result from the opening encounter before the decisive return match.
