Flames coach Callisto Pasuwa has named a squad heavy with foreign-based talent as Malawi prepare to face Namibia and Liberia in the September window.
Malawi meet Namibia in Francistown, Botswana on 5 September before returning home to host Liberia at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe three days later. Pasuwa’s 26-man list leans on players plying their trade abroad, a group that gives the Flames experience and quality across the pitch.
The standout name is Mayele Malango of Monterey Bay FC in the United States, who has earned his maiden call-up. He is joined by fellow overseas-based forwards Richard Mbulu and Lloyd Njaliwa, both in Mozambique, Zambia-based striker Chawanangwa Kaonga and United States forward Henry Kumwenda. It is a spread that shows how far Malawian players have travelled for their football.
For Pasuwa the challenge is blending that foreign core with home-based options into a settled side. The two fixtures offer a chance to build momentum and test combinations, with the Lilongwe crowd expected to roar the Flames on against Liberia. Points from this window would set a positive tone for the campaign ahead.
Where to bet: Malawian fans can back the Flames with Premier Bet and Betway, both pricing match results, both teams to score and goalscorer markets in MWK. Compare the two books before the Namibia and Liberia games to find the sharper line. 18+. Gamble responsibly.
