The Malawi Queens closed their Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign with a 54-47 win over hosts Scotland to finish seventh.
The victory in the seventh-place playoff hit the exact target the Netball Association of Malawi had set before the tournament. The Queens stayed composed against a home crowd, capitalised on their scoring chances and held their nerve through the closing quarter to see the game out.
It capped a spirited run in Scotland. Malawi also beat Tonga 55-49 and got the better of Northern Ireland during the Games, results that showed the side can compete with and overcome established netball nations. The 16-player squad gained valuable exposure at the highest level, experience that should serve the group well.
NAM President Vitumbiko Gubuduza said the finish would help lift Malawi’s standing in world netball, reinforcing the country’s place among the sport’s stronger teams. With a settled core and a clear ambition to climb the rankings, the Queens leave Glasgow with belief and a platform to build on.
