Dynamos and Highlanders both came through the Chibuku Super Cup round of sixteen on Sunday 16 August, Dynamos winning 4 to 1 against TelOne at Rufaro and Highlanders beating Chicken Inn on penalties at Barbourfields.
The Bulawayo tie went to a shootout after ninety goalless minutes, Highlanders taking it 3 to 1 from the spot. At Rufaro the margin was settled well before the end, and a four goal return is not something Dynamos have produced often enough in recent seasons for it to pass without comment.
Cup football has become the most reliable route to relevance for both clubs, which tells its own story about where Zimbabwean football sits. The Chibuku Super Cup carries continental implications and a prize fund that matters to budgets, and for two institutions of this size the alternative to a cup run is a league season spent chasing whoever has the sponsorship that year. Rufaro and Barbourfields filling up for a round of sixteen tie is the healthiest sign in the domestic game.
Separately, the Warriors remain without a substantive senior coach, with Kaitano Tembo in interim charge. Names have circulated in the Zimbabwean press this week, and ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi has publicly declined to confirm or deny any appointment. Until the federation announces one, AXN Sports is treating the vacancy as the story rather than the speculation.
Where to bet: Chibuku Super Cup ties are priced by Premier Bet and Betway, both operating under the Lotteries and Gaming Board, with match result, both teams to score and correct score, and cup outrights that shorten quickly once the quarter final draw is made. Stakes are taken in United States dollars, with deposits through EcoCash and OneMoney. Knockout ties carry draw no bet and to qualify markets that price very differently from the ninety minute result, which is worth understanding before a shootout decides your slip.
