Bulawayo giants Highlanders FC head into this weekend’s Chibuku Super Cup semi-final against CAPS United knowing their historic 100th anniversary year now rests on cup glory.
Formed in 1926, Highlanders entered the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League campaign celebrating a century of footballing excellence. But their league form has fallen short of the centenary expectation.
Bosso sit eighth on 44 points from 32 matches. The Chibuku Super Cup has become particularly important, offering a realistic opportunity to finish the campaign with a major achievement during the club’s landmark year.
Last chance for glory
Highlanders are chasing a memorable centenary gift as they prepare for the crucial semi-final. They lifted the Chibuku Super Cup in 2019 when they beat Ngezi Platinum Stars 1-0 at Barbourfields Stadium.
Now they want another triumph during their 100th anniversary, after a difficult 2026 campaign that has also been overshadowed by controversy surrounding salary payments.
CAPS United stand in their way after completing a league double over Highlanders this season. Bosso had to dig deep to reach the last four, progressing on penalties against Chicken Inn and MWOS.
Hardrock v FC Hunters in the other semi-final
The other semi-final will see Hardrock take on FC Hunters on Saturday, 31 October.
Hardrock have emerged as the team to watch after knocking out fellow title hopefuls Scottland. Their 1-0 quarter-final victory at Rufaro Stadium propelled them into the semi-finals. The side secured their place after taking an early lead.
Hunters, however, arrive as giant-killers after knocking holders Dynamos out of the competition on penalties.
The Chibuku Super Cup final will be played at Chahwanda Stadium on 28 November.
