Tanzania has produced two CAF finalists in three seasons. Yanga reached the Confederation Cup final in 2023 and Simba reached it in 2025, and both came home without the trophy.
The recent record reads two continental finals in three seasons and a run of quarter finals in both CAF club competitions.
Yanga in 2023, a first final for the club
Young Africans reached the CAF Confederation Cup final in 2023, beating Marumo Gallants in the semi finals to meet USM Alger of Algeria. Their coach at the time, Nasreddine Nabi, led Yanga to the club’s first continental final, and Tanzania’s first since Simba reached the 1993 CAF Cup final.
The first leg was played at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar es Salaam and USM Alger won it by two goals to one. The Algerian club took the trophy over the two legs.
Simba in 2025, and the same result
Simba reached the Confederation Cup final two years later and lost to RS Berkane of Morocco by three goals to one on aggregate, the Moroccan club’s third title in the competition. The second leg, played in Tanzania, finished level at one goal each. Joshua Mutale scored for Simba in the seventeenth minute and Soumaila Sidibe equalised for Berkane in stoppage time.
Simba played most of the second half a man short after Yusuph Kagoma was sent off in the fiftieth minute, and a Mukwala goal was disallowed by the video assistant referee in the seventy third.
The quarter final habit
Simba reached the CAF Champions League quarter finals in 2020/21, in 2022/23 and again in 2023/24, and the Confederation Cup quarter finals in 2021/22, without going further on any of those four occasions. Yanga added a Champions League quarter final of their own in 2023/24, lost to Mamelodi Sundowns on penalties.
Where to bet: CAF club competition is priced in shillings at Betway and Premier Bet, both licensed by the Gaming Board of Tanzania, on match result, both teams to score, over and under and qualification outrights. Deposits run through M-Pesa, Mixx by Yas and Airtel Money. A two legged tie prices the aggregate rather than the ninety minutes, so the qualification market and the match result market can move in opposite directions. Compare the two books on qualification before you stake.
