Note To Self is the new name on every South African racing fan’s lips after landing the 130th Hollywoodbets Durban July at Greyville. Trained by Justin Snaith and ridden by Richard Fourie, the winner held on by barely a nose in a thrilling finish on 4 July.
The result made history. Snaith and Fourie became the first trainer and jockey combination to win the July together, a milestone for two of the sport’s most respected local figures. It was a career defining afternoon for both men. Wish List pushed hardest in the closing stride, with King Pelles and Viva’s Liberte filling the frame behind them.
The R10 million feature drew a huge crowd to Durban and confirmed the strength of the Snaith yard, which had loaded the race with contenders. Fourie’s ride, patient then decisive, will be replayed for months. The winning margin summed up how competitive the race had become. For Note To Self, connections now weigh up spring targets as the season moves on.
Attention turns to the next chapter of the campaign. Horses that ran well at Greyville will be aimed at Highveld features, and the build up toward the Summer Cup at Turffontein gives the July form a fresh test. Ante post markets for the Summer Cup will start to take shape in the coming weeks. Punters will watch closely to see which July runners train on.
