Hardrock FC produced a stunning second-half comeback to beat MWOS 3-2 at Chahwanda Stadium on Sunday, strengthening their grip on the Castle Lager Premiership title race.
At the other end of the table, Triangle United were relegated despite beating Simba Bhora 2-0, while Bulawayo Chiefs boosted their survival hopes with a narrow victory over Manica Diamonds.
Hardrock refuse to blink
Kelvin Kaindu’s side looked in serious trouble after MWOS took a two-goal lead through Arthur Banda and Nigel Makumbe. However, the league leaders responded after the break, with Gerald Takwara and Thubelihle Mavuso restoring parity before Munashe Bamara struck late to complete a memorable turnaround.
The victory leaves Hardrock on 69 points at the summit, 8 points clear of second-placed Scottland, who have 61 points and two games in hand. Hardrock’s maiden Premiership title bid remains firmly on course, although the race is not yet over.
Chiefs boost survival hopes as Agama battle on
At Sakubva Stadium, Bulawayo Chiefs secured a crucial 1-0 victory over already-relegated Manica Diamonds. The result strengthened Chiefs’ fight for survival and confirmed Triangle United’s relegation, despite Triangle’s victory over Simba Bhora.
Agama also kept their survival hopes alive with a 3-2 victory over TelOne at Wadzanayi Stadium. TelOne’s defeat confirmed their relegation. Agama remain in danger, with ZPC Kariba also not yet safe on 33 points.
Triangle win but relegation is confirmed
Triangle United beat Simba Bhora 2-0 at Gibbo Stadium, with Jordan Pedra opening the scoring before substitute Emmanuel Paga added a second. Despite the victory, Triangle’s fate was sealed by Bulawayo Chiefs’ win over Manica Diamonds.
The Lowveld side will join Manica Diamonds and TelOne in the lower division next season.
ZPC Kariba held by Chicken Inn
ZPC Kariba were held to a 0-0 draw by Chicken Inn at Luveve Stadium. The point leaves ZPC Kariba on 33 points, meaning they remain at risk as the relegation battle enters its final stages.
What it all means
Hardrock remain in a strong position in the title race, but Scottland still have games in hand and an opportunity to apply pressure. Scottland’s next assignment is against CAPS United on Thursday, while Hardrock must maintain their form in their remaining fixtures.
At the bottom, Bulawayo Chiefs have taken a significant step towards survival, Agama remain in the fight, and ZPC Kariba cannot yet consider themselves safe. Triangle United, TelOne and Manica Diamonds have all been relegated.
