Simba SC secured their place in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League group stage after beating Equatorial Guinea’s 15 de Agosto 3-0 in the second leg of their second preliminary-round tie at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Sunday.
The victory completed a 9-1 aggregate win for the Tanzanian side, who had won the first leg 6-1 on 21 October. Simba now join domestic rivals Young Africans in the group stage, giving Tanzania two representatives in the competition’s final 16.
Simba find their goals after half-time
The teams went into the break level at 0-0, with Simba unable to add to their first-leg advantage during the opening half.
Anicet Oura broke the deadlock after the break to extend Simba’s aggregate lead. Elie Mpanzu then doubled the advantage before Keletso Makgalwa added the third to seal the win.
The three second-half goals completed another convincing performance from Steve Barker’s side, who scored nine times across the two legs.
Tanzania have two teams in the group stage
Simba’s qualification follows Young Africans’ progress after they defeated Madagascar’s CFF Andoharanofotsy 4-1 in the second leg to win 8-1 on aggregate.
The two Tanzanian clubs will now prepare for the group stage, scheduled to begin in November, as they look to compete against some of Africa’s leading teams.
For Simba, the aggregate victory completes a successful preliminary-round campaign after they also eliminated Malawi’s Mighty Wanderers in the previous round. Their attention now turns to the group-stage draw and the challenge of advancing further in the competition.
