Emmanuel Wanyonyi has turned the 2026 Diamond League season into a Kenyan showcase, and the last three meetings will shape the race for the Brussels final.
The World and Olympic 800m champion made the loudest statement in Monaco, where he clocked 2:11.83 over 1,000m to break a mark that had stood for nearly 27 years. That run confirmed Wanyonyi as the athlete to beat over two laps, and it lifted expectations across the Kenyan camp. He now points toward the closing fixtures with a Diamond Trophy defence on his mind.
Faith Kipyegon remains the headline act in the middle distances. The three time Olympic champion has raced the 1500m and the mile this year, and she opened her outdoor campaign with 14:24.14 over 5,000m, the fastest in the world this season. Faith Cherotich, the world steeplechase champion, and 1500m finalist Nelly Chepchirchir give Kenya further medal contenders as the points tighten near the top of the standings.
The calendar leaves little room to breathe. Lausanne comes first on 21 August, Silesia follows on 23 August, and Zurich closes the series on 27 August before the athletes assemble in Brussels for the final on 4 and 5 September. Strong results across those three nights will settle seedings and set the tone for the season ahead.
