Guinea-Bissau beat Nigeria by three goals to nil on 29 September and lead Group L on six points, with Nigeria on three after two matchdays of qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Franculino scored in the 15th minute, Mama Baldé added the second in the 66th and Álvaro Djaló scored in stoppage time. It was Guinea-Bissau’s second win of the campaign, after they had beaten Tanzania by two goals to nil on matchday one.
The group after two matchdays
Guinea-Bissau have six points and Nigeria three, with Tanzania and Madagascar on one each. Tanzania’s point came from a draw with Madagascar on matchday two.
Why the group carries one place
CAF put 48 teams into 12 groups for the PAMOJA 2027 qualifiers. The teams ranked first and second in each group qualify directly, and 24 teams reach the finals, three of them as hosts. Groups D, H and L are the exception, because each contains one of the three host countries, and in those groups only the highest ranked team outside the host country qualifies.
Group L is Nigeria, Madagascar, Tanzania and Guinea-Bissau, and Tanzania are one of the hosts of the finals in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. That is why Nigeria have one place to chase in Group L rather than two, and the place goes to whichever of the other three finishes highest.
