Uganda’s 50 over cricket has counted as List A, not as One Day Internationals. That changes at the Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off in December.
The ICC sets the length of each format and then sets, separately, which of its members may play that format as an international. Those are not the same question, and Uganda sits in a different place in each.
The formats
A One Day International is a single innings of 50 overs a side. A Twenty20 International is a single innings of 20 overs a side and is usually played in three hours.
Who holds which status
Twelve ICC members hold Test match status, which means they also hold ODI and T20I status. All 104 member nations have been granted T20I status, which for women came into effect on 1 July 2018 and for men on 1 January 2019. That covers Uganda, whose Twenty20 matches are therefore T20Is.
Where Uganda’s 50 over cricket has sat
In Challenge League B each side played 15 matches across three legs, and those were List A matches. List A cricket covers One Day Internationals and matches played in the ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League and above, so Uganda’s results there were List A results rather than internationals.
What the Play-off changes
Uganda finished second behind Italy, and both sides advanced to the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off, an eight team tournament scheduled for December 2026. It carries One Day International status, so Uganda and Italy will play their first official ODIs there.
The top four at the Play-off advance to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier. So December is the month in which a Cricket Cranes result starts to count as an international one.
