Winger Mwisho Mhango made his professional debut for 2. Bundesliga side Hannover 96 in their 2-0 loss to Kaiserslautern in Wednesday’s DFB Cup tie.
The 19-year-old Malawi under-23 attacker came on in place of Emir Sahiti with nine minutes remaining on the clock.
In its match report, Hannover 96 congratulated Mhango on his professional debut, a season after he signed a long-term contract with the 2. Bundesliga club last year from Lilongwe-based Ascent Academy.
“After Merlin Sinanovic and Tom Hobrecht made their professional debuts last Sunday, Mwisho Mhango can also look forward to his first minutes for the 96 first team today. The Malawian, who joined 96 earlier this year, was substituted for Emir Sahiti in the 82nd minute. Congratulations, Mwisho,” reads the report.
Mhango will hope for more game time when Hannover 96 welcome SG Dynamo Dresden on matchday 10 of the campaign on Sunday, 1 November 2026. The game kicks off at 1.30pm German time.
The winger has followed in the footsteps of former Flames forward Dan Chitsulo, who played in the 2. Bundesliga for VfL Osnabrück in 2007.
