The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has sanctioned Abia Warriors for breaching the NPFL27 Framework and Rules during their matchday 10 fixture against Niger Tornadoes on Sunday.
The league said the club failed to provide adequate security as agreed at the pre-match technical meeting. It also said an Abia Warriors official attempted to disrupt the live broadcast of the match by harassing a crew member of the league’s broadcast partner, conduct capable of bringing the game into disrepute.
The club was fined ₦1 million for the security failure and another ₦2 million for attempting to disrupt the live broadcast. Abia Warriors must also pay ₦250,000 as compensation to the affected crew member for treatment of the injury sustained during the incident.
The NPFL also suspended the club’s multimedia officer, Chidera Favour Igwe, from all NPFL activities for five matches, home and away, for attempting to disrupt the broadcast and harassing the crew member.
Abia Warriors have 48 hours from the date of the notice to appeal the sanctions.
On the pitch, Niger Tornadoes won the game 1-0, with Wasiu Jimoh scoring the only goal in the second half.
