Simba SC took a major step towards the 2026/27 CAF Champions League group stage after beating Equatorial Guinea’s 15 de Agosto 6-1 in the first leg of their second preliminary-round tie at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday.
Nathaniel Chilambo opened the scoring in the 43rd minute, before Elie Mpanzu doubled Simba’s lead shortly after half-time. Ibrahim Doumbia scored twice, while Keletso Makgalwa and Anicet Oura also found the net as Simba established a commanding five-goal advantage ahead of the return leg.
Simba turn on the attack
Chilambo gave Simba the lead just before half-time. Mpanzu made it 2-0 in the 56th minute, and Doumbia then scored before Makgalwa extended the lead.
Oura added Simba’s fifth in the 82nd minute, before Doumbia completed his brace.
15 de Agosto scored a consolation goal through Alozie Uwandu in stoppage time, but Simba finished with a convincing 6-1 victory.
Group stage within reach
The return leg is scheduled for Sunday 25 October at Uhuru Stadium. The Tanzanian side will look to complete the job at home and secure a place in the Champions League group stage.
Simba advanced to this round after defeating Malawi’s Mighty Wanderers 7-1 on aggregate. Another strong performance in the second leg would put Steve Barker’s side closer to returning to the competition’s group stage.
For 15 de Agosto, the task is now significantly harder after conceding six goals in the opening encounter. They must produce a much stronger defensive display and score repeatedly if they are to overturn the deficit.
Simba, meanwhile, will take confidence from their attacking performance as they look to finish the tie and join Young Africans in the group stage.
