The SPAR Proteas carry fresh momentum into August, and the domestic season now moves to Cape Town for the SPAR National Netball Championships.
Attention turns to Stellenberg High School in Cape Town, where the SPAR National Netball Championships run from 6 to 11 August. The event brings together 122 teams, including 58 senior district sides and 64 under 21 squads. Around 1,900 players and 100 umpires will fill six days of competition across the city.
The tournament is the main shop window for Proteas selection. District matches give the national selectors a close look at emerging shooters, feeders and defenders, and strong showings here can push a player into the senior conversation. Women’s Month gives the championships extra weight, with a packed schedule of matches each day.
The Proteas themselves head into the event with belief. At the Glasgow Commonwealth Games they posted a record 96-42 win over Tonga and pushed several fancied sides, which points to depth building underneath the first choice group. The national championships now offer the next players a stage to press their claims.
