Zambia beat Togo by two goals to nil at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on 29 September, a win that lifts them to three points in Group I of the AFCON 2027 qualifiers.
Albert Kangwanda scored in the second minute and Eliya Mandanji added the second in stoppage time. A power failure stopped play during the match.
After the defeat in Tizi-Ouzou
Zambia had opened the group on 25 September with a three one defeat by Algeria in Tizi-Ouzou. The Chipolopolo have now taken three points from their first two matchdays.
Where Group I stands
Algeria lead Group I on four points from two matches, after drawing two all with Burundi on the same matchday. Zambia and Togo have three points each and Burundi one.
CAF put 48 teams, including the three co-hosts, into 12 groups of four. The top two in each group reach the finals, except in the groups containing Kenya, Tanzania or Uganda, where only the highest ranked team outside the host country qualifies, because the host nation is already guaranteed a place. Group I has no host in it, so it carries two places, and in all 24 teams are expected at the finals.
What comes next
The qualifiers are played home and away across six matchdays. Matchdays three and four fall in the window of 9 to 17 November 2026, and the finals run from 19 June to 17 July 2027. Zambia play Burundi on 11 November.
