Cyprian Kachwele scored as Tanzania drew one all with Madagascar on 29 September, leaving the Taifa Stars on one point from two matches in Group L.
Kachwele put Tanzania in front in the 39th minute at the Stade d’Honneur de Maknes in Meknes, Morocco, and Nicolas Fontaine equalised for Madagascar in the 50th. The draw was Tanzania’s first point of the campaign.
What Tanzania are playing for
Not qualification. CAF’s format for the PAMOJA 2027 qualifiers puts 48 teams, including the three co-hosts, into 12 groups of four. The top two go through, except in the groups containing Kenya, Tanzania or Uganda, where only the highest ranked team outside the host country qualifies, because the host nation is already guaranteed a place. In all, 24 teams are expected at the finals.
So Tanzania are at the tournament whatever happens here, and Guinea-Bissau, Nigeria and Madagascar are competing for the one place that Group L carries.
Group L so far
Tanzania opened their programme at home to Guinea-Bissau and lost by two goals to nil. Madagascar also have one point from their two matches.
When the group resumes
The qualifiers are played home and away across six matchdays. Matchdays three and four fall in the window of 9 to 17 November 2026, and the finals in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda run from 19 June to 17 July 2027, which is the tournament Tanzania are already in.
