Cote d’Ivoire beat Ghana by two goals to nil at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake on 24 September, in the opening match of Group C of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Malick Yalcouye scored the opening goal and Franck Kessie scored the second from the penalty spot.
Ghana host the Gambia on 29 September. Somalia play Cote d’Ivoire the same day, which completes the second round of matches in the group.
What Group C carries
Group C holds Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, the Gambia and Somalia. CAF sends the top two of a group with no host nation in it to the finals, and Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda host in 2027, so Group C has two places in it.
That is the number that matters after a defeat in Bouake. Ghana have the Gambia and Somalia to play home and away, and Cote d’Ivoire again in Accra later in the campaign.
How the market reads it
The two places on offer are what the group outright is built on, rather than the result of any single match.
The fixture on 29 September is at home against the Gambia, and the group is settled over the whole set of matches rather than over the trip to Bouake.
