Theophilus Allotey beat Facundo David Garcia of Argentina on all three cards at the Bukom Boxing Arena at the weekend to win a WBA super flyweight final eliminator and move into line for a world title fight.
The judges scored it 120 to 107 across the board over twelve rounds. Allotey put Garcia down in the first round and controlled the distance from there, and he kept his unbeaten record.
What a final eliminator is worth
An eliminator is the sanctioning body’s way of sorting out who challenges next rather than a title in itself. Winning this one puts Allotey in line for a shot at the WBA super flyweight championship. It does not fix a date, and the champion’s own obligations decide when that fight happens.
Allotey was already in the WBO world ratings at the same weight earlier this month, so he now carries standing with two of the four bodies. That matters more than it sounds, because a boxer who is ranked with one organisation and in line with another has two routes to a title rather than one.
The rest of the Osagyefo card
Samuel Takyi, who won Ghana’s Olympic bronze in Tokyo, stopped Steven Bagwasi in the second round on the same bill. The Osagyefo Fight Night was staged at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
Where to bet: Betway and Premier Bet, both licensed by the Gaming Commission of Ghana, price boxing in cedis on method of victory, round betting and the outright winner, with deposits through MTN Mobile Money and Telecel Cash. A boxer coming off a shutout decision is usually priced short on the win and long on the stoppage, and those two prices move in opposite directions once a world title date is announced.
