Zimbabwe’s Sables finally broke their long home drought against Namibia on Saturday, surviving a furious second-half fightback to secure a 36-33 victory in an international Test at the National Sports Stadium in Harare.
The win was Zimbabwe’s first over Namibia on home soil in 25 years.
The victory extends the Sables’ recent dominance over Namibia, following their 30-28 triumph in the 2025 Rugby Africa Cup final that booked their place at the 2027 World Cup in Australia, their first appearance at the global showpiece since 1991.
It also marked the return of international rugby to the National Sports Stadium, a symbolic moment for a Sables side rebuilding its connection with the home public.
Attention now turns to the November Nations Cup in England, where Zimbabwe will face Samoa and Uruguay before a meeting with Chile in France. For Pieter Benade and his players, the Namibia win is a foundation, not a destination.
