Kenya Police FC have pushed back against reports that head coach Nicholas Muyoti and his assistant John Baraza were sacked. The club says the two stepped aside to pursue advanced coaching qualifications.
Club rejects sacking reports
Technical Director Mbarak “Mnyama” Bashatir stated that the pair requested time away to pursue CAF A coaching licences. He said the club agreed to back their professional development and that the move should not be read as a dismissal.
Bashatir described the arrangement as a positive step for the club and said Police hold no grudge against Muyoti, whom he praised as a good coach.
Poor start to the season
The clarification follows a shaky start to the 2026/27 FKF Premier League season. Police opened with a 1-1 draw against newcomers Migori Youth, then lost 2-1 to AFC Leopards at Nyayo Stadium on Tuesday. Reports then emerged that the technical bench had been shown the door.
Bashatir insisted the results played no part in the decision. He pointed out that Police missed out on both the Mozzart Bet Cup and the league title last season, yet Muyoti remained in charge throughout. In his view, that history shows the coach is not a casualty of a bad start.
Muyoti was appointed in January 2026 to replace Dusan Stojanovic, who was dismissed after a poor run of results.
What comes next for Police
The pressure now shifts to whoever takes charge, whether on an interim or permanent basis. Police face league debutants Mombasa United away this Sunday, a fixture that offers a chance to get their season back on track.
On paper, it looks like a winnable game, but away trips to newly promoted sides are rarely straightforward. Mombasa United will be eager to make an impression in their first top-flight season, and a nervous Police side could find it a tricky afternoon on the coast.
For the players, the next few days will be about regrouping quickly. Fans will be watching closely on Sunday to see how Kenya Police respond.
