The Aviator game is a crash game made by Spribe in which a small plane takes off, a multiplier climbs from 1.00x, and you win your stake times that multiplier if you cash out before the plane flies away. In South Africa, Aviator is one of the most played games on local betting sites, with stakes from R1 on many of them and rounds that last only a few seconds.

This guide explains what Aviator is, why so many South African punters play it, and the maths that decides every round. Start with the free AXN Aviator Simulator just below, using practice credits in rand, then compare the bookmakers that offer the real game.

Try it free: the AXN Aviator Simulator

The AXN Aviator Simulator is a free practice version of the game, built by AXN Sports, that gives you R1 000 in practice credits to learn with. You buy up to two tickets while the plane is boarding, watch the multiplier climb after takeoff, and cash out before the plane flies away. Nothing here costs money, and nothing here can be withdrawn.

The simulator uses the same 97% payback as Aviator, so your results settle the way real crash games do over time. Four tabs sit under the game: Flight school covers the rules and odds, Logbook tracks your own RTP, Test flights runs 20 test pilots through a strategy of your choice, and Black box lets you check that each flight was sealed before takeoff. Try Autopilot on one ticket and cash out the other by hand to see how two bets behave.

The simulator is a practice version built to teach you how Aviator works. The real Aviator is made by Spribe and played for real money at licensed South African bookmakers, such as the five listed below.

What is the Aviator game?

Aviator is a betting game where the only decision you make is when to cash out. A red plane climbs across the screen and the multiplier rises with it: 1.20x, 2.00x, 5.00x and sometimes far higher. At a random moment the plane flies off. Anyone who cashed out before that moment wins; anyone still riding loses the stake.

Spribe, a games studio founded in 2018, released Aviator in 2019. The game made the crash format famous far beyond the crypto sites where it started, and it is now offered by hundreds of bookmakers across Africa, Europe, Latin America and Asia. Other studios have copied the idea with games such as JetX, Spaceman and Lucky Jet, but Aviator remains the title most South African punters ask for by name.

There are no reels, cards or paylines. Every player in a round sees the same flight and the same crash point, which is why Aviator feels closer to a shared live event than a solo slot.

Why South African punters love Aviator

South African punters love Aviator because it is fast, cheap to play, social, and it puts the cash out button in their hands. Here is what keeps it near the top of the games lobby on local betting sites.

You feel in control of the outcome

On a slot you press spin and wait. On Aviator you choose the exact moment to take your money, so every round comes with a decision and a small rush of tension. That feeling of control is the biggest reason the game is so popular, even though the crash point itself is random and fixed before takeoff.

Rounds are over in seconds

A round of Aviator takes roughly 10 to 30 seconds including the short betting window. That suits a punter checking their phone on a taxi ride, at half time of a Chiefs game, or between races at Greyville.

Low stakes from R1

Many South African bookmakers accept Aviator bets from R1, and the multiplier means a small stake can still return a big number on a lucky round. A R5 bet cashed at 20x pays R100. The flip side, covered in the odds section below, is that high multipliers are rare.

The live feed and chat make it social

Aviator shows a live list of other players, their stakes and when they cashed out, plus an in game chat. Watching someone cash out at 50x while you are still riding is part of the entertainment, and it is also a trap worth knowing about: the feed shows the big wins, not the long run of small losses.

It works well on a phone

The game is light, loads quickly on mobile data, and several local bookmakers offer data free play on their sites or apps, though that usually covers the sportsbook rather than the games lobby. For punters on prepaid data, that matters more than fancy graphics.

You can check that it is fair

Aviator uses a provably fair system, so the result of each round can be verified after it ends. Many players like knowing the operator cannot change the crash point once bets are placed.

How to play Aviator: one round, step by step

To play Aviator you place a bet before takeoff, watch the multiplier climb, and press Cash out before the plane flies away. The full flow on a South African betting site looks like this:

  1. Open the casino or games lobby on your bookmaker and search for Aviator.
  2. Set your stake in rand. You can open a second bet panel to run two bets in the same round.
  3. Press Bet during the short countdown between rounds. A bet placed after takeoff waits for the next round.
  4. Watch the plane climb. The Cash out button shows your stake times the current multiplier.
  5. Press Cash out to lock in the win, or let Auto cash out do it at a multiplier you set.
  6. If the plane flies away first, the stake on that bet is lost. The next countdown starts straight away.

Aviator odds and RTP: the maths behind every round

Aviator has a return to player of 97%, which means that over a very large number of bets the game pays back about R97 for every R100 staked. The remaining 3% is the house edge, and no cash out target can beat it.

The 97% figure gives a simple rule for the odds. The chance that a round reaches a given multiplier is about 97% divided by that multiplier. The chance of reaching 2x is 97 ÷ 2, or about 48.5%. The chance of reaching 10x is about 9.7%.

Cash out targetChance the plane gets thereReturn on a R10 betWins per 100 rounds (average)
1.20x80.8%R1281
1.50x64.7%R1565
2x48.5%R2049
3x32.3%R3032
5x19.4%R5019
10x9.7%R10010
50x1.94%R5002
100x0.97%R1 0001

Look along any row and the average comes out the same. At 2x you win about half the time and double your money; at 10x you win about one round in ten and get ten times your money. Both return roughly R9.70 for every R10 bet over time. A low target makes your balance swing less; a high target makes it swing more. Neither changes the 3% edge.

Is Aviator provably fair?

Yes. Aviator uses a provably fair system in which the result of each round is created from seeds that are locked in before the round starts, so neither the operator nor the players can change it once bets are in.

In simple terms, the game server commits to a secret seed and shows a scrambled fingerprint of it, called a hash, before the round. Seeds from some of the players in that round are combined with it, and the crash point is calculated from the result. After the round you can open the round details, see the seeds, and check that they produce the crash point you saw.

Provably fair proves that a round was not rigged after you bet. It does not let anyone predict the next round. The Black box tab in our simulator walks you through the same check with a working example.

Aviator features explained

Aviator keeps its controls simple, but a few features change how you play. These are the ones worth understanding before you bet real rand.

FeatureWhat it doesWhen punters use it
Two bet panelsRun two separate bets in one round, each with its own stake and cash outOne safe bet at a low target plus one riding higher
Auto betPlaces the same bet every round until you stop it or run out of balanceSteady play without pressing Bet each time
Auto cash outCashes out the moment the multiplier reaches your targetRemoves reaction time and emotion from the decision

Aviator strategies: what they can and cannot do

No Aviator strategy beats the 3% house edge, because every cash out target returns about 97% over time. Strategies can only change how your balance moves: many small wins, or rare big ones.

Low target with Auto cash out

Setting Auto cash out at 1.20x to 1.50x wins most rounds. The catch is that each loss costs the whole stake, and one loss wipes out several wins. At 1.20x a loss happens in about 1 round out of 5.

Two bets: one low, one high

A popular South African approach is one bet with Auto cash out at 1.50x and a second bet ridden by hand. The low bet often cushions a loss on the high bet, so results swing less. You are still putting twice the money through a game that keeps 3% of it on average.

Doubling after a loss (Martingale)

Doubling your stake after every loss feels safe because most sessions end with a small profit. Then a run of seven or eight losses arrives, the stake needed passes your balance or the table limit, and the session ends in a large loss. Run the Double after a loss plan in the simulator’s Test flights tab and watch how many of the 20 test pilots go bust.

Tips that do help

  • Decide your session budget in rand before you open the game, and stop when it is gone.
  • Use Auto cash out so the decision is made before the adrenaline starts.
  • Keep stakes small relative to your balance; 1% to 2% per bet lets you ride out bad runs.
  • Treat winnings as luck, not skill, and do not raise stakes after a big cash out.
  • Take a break every few dozen rounds. Aviator is fast, and time disappears quickly.

Aviator predictors, hacks and signal groups are scams

No app, bot or Telegram group can predict an Aviator crash point, because the result comes from cryptographic seeds that nobody sees until the round is over. Anything sold as an Aviator predictor, hack or signal is a scam.

These schemes usually ask for a payment, your betting login, or a deposit through their own link. Some show fake screenshots of big wins; others are simply malware. Never share your bookmaker password or OTP, and never pay for signals. If a site promises a guaranteed win on Aviator, walk away.

Common myths

  • "A big multiplier is due." Each round is independent. A run of low rounds does not make a high one more likely.
  • "The best time to play is late at night." The crash point does not depend on the time of day or how many people are playing.
  • "I can read the pattern in the history bar." Random results always look streaky. The history cannot predict the next round.
  • "Cashing out at 1.10x is risk free." It wins about 88% of the time, and the other 12% lose the full stake.

Is Aviator legal in South Africa?

The legal status of Aviator in South Africa is contested. Several South African bookmakers offer it under provincial betting licences, but the National Gambling Board holds that online casino style games offered under a betting licence are unlawful interactive gambling under the National Gambling Act of 2004.

The courts have added weight to that view. In October 2025 the Supreme Court of Appeal ruled in Portapa (Supabets) v Casino Association of South Africa that a Gauteng bookmaker licence covers sporting events only, so a bookmaker licensed there cannot offer fixed odds bets on casino games such as roulette. The judgment dealt with Gauteng law and roulette, not Aviator by name, and other provinces word their laws differently. The Remote Gambling Bill tabled in 2024, a private member’s bill that would have set clear national rules for online gambling, has not been passed.

In practice, sports and horse racing bets with a provincially licensed bookmaker are the clearly legal part of the South African market. If you choose to play Aviator, only use a site that shows a valid South African provincial licence, never an unlicensed offshore site, and expect that the game could be withdrawn from local sites if regulators or courts go further.

Playing Aviator on South African betting sites: deposits, data and FICA

Playing Aviator for real money in South Africa means opening an account with a licensed bookmaker, passing FICA checks, and funding your balance in rand. A few local details make a real difference to how smooth that is.

Deposits that keep up with a fast game

Instant EFT through Ozow and Capitec Pay loads your balance within seconds, straight from your bank app. If you prefer cash, 1Voucher and OTT Voucher are sold at Shoprite, Pick n Pay, PEP and many spaza shops, and credit your account as soon as you enter the PIN. Card deposits work too, but some banks block gambling transactions on certain cards.

FICA before your first withdrawal

South African bookmakers must verify your identity before you withdraw. Upload a clear copy of your ID and a recent proof of address when you register, not after a big Aviator win, so your payout is not held up.

Data free play and weak signal

Some local bookmakers offer data free versions of their sites, which is a real saving if you play on prepaid data. On a weak connection, set Auto cash out rather than relying on tapping the button in time; a delay of one second can be the difference between a win and a lost stake.

Responsible play: keeping Aviator fun

Aviator is fast, and fast games make it easy to lose track of time and money. Set a limit before you play and use the tools South African bookmakers must offer.

  • Set daily, weekly or monthly deposit limits in your account settings.
  • Use time outs or self exclusion if a session gets away from you.
  • Never chase losses by raising your stake or switching to a higher target.
  • Gambling is for adults 18+ only. Never let anyone under 18 use your account.

If gambling stops being fun, free and confidential help is available 24 hours a day from the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation: call 0800 006 008 or WhatsApp +27 76 675 0710.

Aviator FAQ

What is the Aviator game?

Aviator is a crash game by Spribe. You bet before a plane takes off, a multiplier climbs, and you win your stake times the multiplier if you cash out before the plane flies away. If it flies away first, you lose the stake.

Is Aviator legal in South Africa?

Its status is contested. Some licensed South African bookmakers offer Aviator under provincial betting licences, but the National Gambling Board holds that casino style games offered this way are unlawful, and a 2025 Supreme Court of Appeal ruling barred Gauteng bookmakers from offering casino games such as roulette. Sports and horse racing bets are the clearly legal option.

What is the RTP of Aviator?

Spribe publishes an RTP of 97% for Aviator, which means a 3% house edge. Over many rounds, every cash out target returns about R97 for every R100 bet.

Can I play Aviator for free?

You can practise the same style of play on the free AXN Aviator Simulator on this page, with R1 000 in practice credits and no sign up. For the real game, SuperSportBet gives new players 10 free Aviator flights at R1 each when they register, with no deposit needed to claim them, though you must deposit before you can withdraw any winnings.

Is there an Aviator predictor that works?

No. Crash points come from cryptographic seeds that nobody can see in advance, so every predictor app, hack or signal group is a scam. Never pay for one or share your betting login.

What is the minimum bet on Aviator in South Africa?

On many South African betting sites the minimum Aviator bet is R1, but each bookmaker sets its own limits. Check the bet panel in the game for the exact minimum and maximum.
