The Nigeria Basketball Federation has set its elective congress for 15 October in Abuja, the last day of the deadline FIBA set to elect a board.
FIBA directed the federation to hold the election by 15 October 2026 and to have the new board in office no later than 16 October. The same direction leaves the current board’s tenure running to 15 October. The letter setting that out was signed by the FIBA secretary general Andreas Zagklis, and FIBA described Musa Kida’s board as the legitimate authority overseeing basketball in Nigeria.
Who has come forward
Ejike Ugboaja, who played for D’Tigers, has declared for the presidency. Mustapha Abdullahi has declared as well.
What the date decides
A board elected on 15 October and in office on 16 October takes charge of the federation for the season that follows, which is the period the FIBA direction was written to cover.
The congress is the point at which the contest is settled, and until it is held nothing about the federation’s next season is fixed.
